Dr. Alan van der Woerd is a veteran missionary who has served in theological education, church and community development, church planting and chaplaincy in Africa, Latin America, and North America. He has taught at Smith Bible College (Nigeria), Seminario Juan Calvino in Mexico City, Seminario ESEPA and La Universidad Evangélica de las Américas in Costa Rica, and PGA Presbyterian Seminary (Korean) and Trinity Western University in British Columbia, Canada. He also started Zacil Be Bible College and Church Planters Institute in Cancun. He has served in administrative roles overseeing chaplains, as a director of a Theological Education by Extension program in the Yucatan Pennisula of Mexico, director of a Seminary Licentiatura degree program, and as the Mexico field director for his mission agency. His dissertation under Drs. Robert Priest and Paul Hiebert was titled: “The Leader-Follower Dynamics of an Autochthonous Church in Mexico City: An Ethnographic Study of Authoritarian and Transformational Leadership Styles.” Dr. van der Woerd and his family live in Canada.
