The School of Creative Expression is pleased to announce that Karen Nava has joined the Communication & Media Studies Department as Professor of Visual Communication. Karen’s specialty is global communication as she has acquired comprehensive visual communications expertise and strategy experience through diverse organizations across international regions. Karen is well versed in grassroots visual experiences and has had the opportunity to work with many indigenous rural reporters. For the past ten years, Karen has worked for the National Council of La Raza, now UnidosUS, and most recently has served there as Senior Creative and Publications Director. Originally from Bolivia, Karen completed her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Science there before continuing her education in the United States. She holds both a PhD in Mass Communication and a MA in International Affairs for the Communication and Development Program with a minor in Visual Communication from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. Karen and her family currently live in Virginia just outside of Washington, DC.
