Dr. Rick Nichols is a an accomplished musician and recitalist, music director, music editor/publisher, music composer, professor, and academic administrator. As a member of the Cape Philharmonic Orchestra in Cape Town, South Africa; the United States Army Band’s “Pershing’s Own,” and as a recitalist, he has performed for the US President, foreign Heads of State, and the Eastman School of Music (US), the Odessa Conservatory (UA), the University of South Africa (ZA), and a number of US state universities. He has composed over 250 choral and instrumental compositions, arrangements, and orchestrations and completed commissioned compositions for the Philadelphia Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera of New York, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and the American Guild of Organists. He has directed music at the college level and in church settings. In the music publishing field, he served as the director of a book and music publishing company and as a senior editor. He has sixteen years of experience in higher education as a faculty member, department chair, and academic dean, teaching and overseeing multiple disciplines.
